On Sunday December 13th 2009, The Wickford Collection had great success with their fund raiser benefiting Toys for Tots. With nine construction bags filled to the brim with donated toys, the Wickford Collection greatly benefited Toys for Tots, whose need for donations was up 1/3, the warehouse was bare and donations were said to be down 50% from last year.
The Wickford Collection collected toys from Saturday December 5th until Sunday December 13th. On Sunday, East Greenwich Photo took holiday photos of Santa Michael Rielly with shoppers’ children. From every photo sold, one dollar was donated to Toys for Tots. The Wickford Collection also donated 5% of their sales to Toys for Tots during Wickford’s annual Festival of Lights on the weekend of December 4-6. “I donate so much because watching my children open gifts Christmas morning and realizing that there were some children in the world who wouldn’t even open up one gift broke my heart.” Mehringer concluded that “Christmas should be special to everyone, especially children.”
